CEU Guidance

Chapters and individuals are awarded CEU credit under the ISP® Recertification Guide for events such as:

Follow the below process to ensure timely credit and/or recommendations for how to maximize that credit.

Chapter Meetings and Seminars:

  • Chapter Chairs may award a maximum of two CEUs for qualifying chapter meetings.
    • Includes training sessions in industrial security, industrial security management, information security, and or professional development-related topics;
    • a 30 minute session is worth .5 CEU; 45-60 minute sessions are worth 1 CEU each;
    • Questions about what qualifies for CEU credit may be submitted to the CEU Review Subcommittee (CRS) Chair;
    • Chapter Chairs will provide attendees with an attendance certificate reflecting the number of CEUs awarded. For chapter meetings with two CEUs or less, an agenda is not required for subsequent submission by the ISP® for credit during recertification;
    • See the CEU Review Subcommittee – SOP for Calculating CEUs link below for more information.
  • For chapter events over two CEUs, Chapter chairs will submit the training agenda, preferably in Word format, to the NCMS National Office, who will forward to the Chair of the CEU Review Subcommittee;
    • The Training Agenda should be submitted no later than 30 days prior to the event to allow for review and editing as needed;
    • CEU Review Subcommittee will:
      • Review the training agenda within five business days;
      • Convert the chapter CEU request into evaluation results and/or make recommendations to the chapter to maximize the CEU award;
      • Forward results and/or recommendations to the chapter and NCMS National Office.  This will be filed in the chapter’s folder at HQ.
    • Chapters will provide attendees with an attendance certificate, which lists the date, event, event location, and CEUs awarded, as well as an agenda/ program synopsis.

Individual Submissions:

  • Individuals requesting CEU credit for a non-NCMS function/event that was not previously submitted for CEU credit should send their request with the following information: Date attended and agenda (in Word format if possible), to include amount of time for each training unit and a thorough description of each training unit as it relates to industrial security, industrial security management or information security to the NCMS National Office, who will in turn send the request to the CEU Subcommittee Chair, who then reviews the request and will determine the number of CEUs to be awarded.  Training event credit issued by non-affiliated NCMS organizations do not necessarily count for ISP® CEUs.
  • The results and/or recommendations are forwarded to the individual, who will need to include this documentation with their recertification package
  • Individual submissions for CEU credit should be sent in as early as possible in advance of the recertification package because documentation may be difficult to locate for events that occurred a year or two in the past.
